Privacy policy

Last updated October 24, 2026

Night Shift Detective is a browser game. This page explains, in plain language, what information the game handles and why. The short version: an account is just your email address and your saved career, there are no passwords, and we don't sell anything about you.

Your account

To save your progress you sign in with your email address. We email you a 6-digit code; there's no password. When you sign in we store:

Sign-in emails are delivered by Cloudflare's email service. Your account data is stored in Cloudflare's database service and kept until you delete your account.

Deleting your account: sign in, open Account and privacy on the title screen, and choose Delete my account and saved career. Everything above is deleted immediately.

The daily case, without an account

Career mode needs an account. The daily case doesn't: anyone can play it. Your progress on the daily case and your streak are kept in your own browser's storage, not on our servers.

When you finish a daily case, the game sends us an anonymous result so we can show how everyone did that day: the date, the outcome (for example, "conviction"), how many days and actions it took, and a random ID your browser makes up so the same result isn't counted twice. It contains no name, email, or account, and the random ID isn't linked to anything else. We keep these results to show daily statistics.

Cookies and your device

The game uses one essential cookie to keep you signed in. It can't be read by other sites or by scripts, and it isn't used for tracking. The game also uses your browser's storage to remember your privacy choices, your settings (sound, text size, and similar), and your daily case progress and streak.

Feedback you send

If you use the in-game feedback form, we receive what you type, the game version, and, only if you leave the box checked, basic details about your game (rank, day, and which case you were on) and your browser type. An email address is optional and only used to reply to you. Feedback is stored with our hosting provider and deleted once it's no longer needed, and in any case within 12 months.

Usage statistics (optional)

If you allow it, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page visits. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across other sites, and doesn't build a profile of you. You can turn it on or off at any time from Privacy choices on the game's title screen.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Advertising

The game currently shows no ads. If that changes, we'll update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires it before any advertising cookies are used.

Children

The game depicts violent crime and is intended for players 16 and older. It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account or sent us feedback, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete information about you, and to object to how it's used. You can delete your account yourself at any time from the game. For anything else, such as a copy of your data or feedback you sent, email [email protected] and we'll respond within 30 days.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced in the game.
